Meet Melissa
Clinical Nutritionist – BHSc NutDMed
Hello and welcome!
I’m the principal nutritionist here at Better Minds Nutrition. A little about me…I’m a dog mum, adventurer, and foodie. My passion for nutrition began when I was young, but it was competing in my first bodybuilding competition that opened my eyes to how profoundly nutrition affects mental health and hormones. That experience inspired me to pursue a career in nutrition and natural health—work I now find incredibly rewarding.
I founded Better Minds Nutrition to bring a personalised and evidence-based approach to mental and physical wellbeing. My focus is helping clients understand their unique biology and build practical nutrition habits that feel practical, sustainable, and empowering—so you can feel and function at your best.

Why Clinical Nutrition?
A clinical nutritionist is a degree qualified health professional with comprehensive training in disciplines such as anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, nutritional biochemistry, pharmacology, pathology, and clinical nutritional medicine. By leveraging nutritional medicine, a clinical nutritionist targets the signs and symptoms of illness and chronic conditions. This approach views nutrients as vital for the proper functioning of all biochemical processes, acknowledging that symptoms are often a reflection of more complex imbalances shaped by environmental, genetic, nutritional, and lifestyle influences.
Clinical nutritionists create personalised, evidence-based nutrition plans tailored to your specific symptoms, deficiencies, test results, and health objectives. These plans are uniquely designed-steering clear of one-size- tits-all solutions or trendy diets.

Functional Pathology Testing
Better Minds Nutrition prioritises precision health using advanced functional pathology testing to guide personalised care.
Your practitioner may recommend specialised testing to gather more information about your presenting complaint. This may include:
- Nutrigenomics / Genetic Testing (SNPs e.g. MTHFR) Offers insight into genetic predispositions affecting mental health, methylation, metabolism (carbs/fats), nutrient response, inflammation, oxidative stress, circadian rhythms, athletic performance and recovery, and ostrogen detoxification.
- Gut Microbiome Mapping Analyses the balance between beneficial and harmful gut bacteria, assesses intestinal permeability, inflammation, and potential parasitic infections.
- Organic Acids Test (OAT) Evaluates metabolic health by measuring vitamin/mineral status, neurotransmitter levels, oxidative stress, oxalate metabolism, and key metabolic cycles (glycolysis and Krebs).
- Blood Pathology Analysis I interpret blood tests from a functional medicine perspective to help identify subtle imbalances and early changes that standard interpretations may overlook (Comprehensive analysis may incur an additional charge)
